About this role

The Senior Medical Science Liaison is a field-based scientific expert for Labcorp Oncology, dedicated to advancing clinical understanding of tissue- and liquid-based diagnostic solutions in precision oncology. This role builds trusted relationships with key external experts and delivers evidence-based scientific exchange.

Day-to-day, the MSL establishes strategic relationships with KOLs, academic institutions, and community oncology practices. They develop and deliver scientific education, lead engagement at national and regional congresses, grand rounds, and CME programs, and respond to complex medical inquiries.

The MSL serves as a subject matter expert for internal cross-functional partners, including commercial, market access, and clinical development teams. They collaborate with cross-functional partners to identify strategic KOL engagement opportunities and lead Clinical Advisory Boards, translating insights into actionable medical and business strategies.

This role offers the opportunity to shape medical strategy through field insights and voice-of-customer feedback, while maintaining deep expertise in oncology care pathways and biomarker-driven diagnostics. The MSL supports generation of scientific evidence, including abstract development and manuscript preparation for peer-reviewed journals.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, MD, or equivalent) in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Deep scientific expertise in oncology, particularly precision oncology and molecular diagnostics.
  • Proven experience in a field-based Medical Science Liaison or similar role.
  • Strong ability to establish and maintain strategic relationships with Key Opinion Leaders and healthcare professionals.
  • Excellent scientific communication skills, with experience developing and delivering presentations to clinical and academic audiences.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements for medical affairs interactions with healthcare providers.
  • Willingness to travel extensively (75%) within the assigned territory and to national meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), academic institutions, community oncology practices, and health and hospital systems.
  • Develop, update, and deliver scientific and medical education, including slide decks, abstracts, manuscripts, and clinical data presentations, to healthcare professionals.
  • Lead and coordinate scientific engagement at academic and professional forums, such as national and regional congresses, symposia, grand rounds, and CME programs.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for internal cross-functional partners, providing insights on clinical utility, biomarker strategies, competitive landscape, and evolving standards of care.
  • Serve as Medical Affairs lead for Clinical Advisory Boards, including strategic planning, scientific agenda development, and facilitation of expert discussions.
  • Respond to complex medical and scientific inquiries from healthcare providers and internal stakeholders in a timely, accurate, and compliant manner.
  • Capture and communicate voice-of-customer (VOC) insights from the field to inform medical strategy, product development, and cross-functional decision-making.
  • Travel extensively within the assigned territory, with additional travel to national meetings as required (75%).
