Ionis Pharmaceuticals

Pulmonary Drug Discovery Intern

2w

Ionis Pharmaceuticals

Carlsbad, US · Internship · $45,000 – $65,000

About this role

Ionis Pharmaceuticals pioneers RNA-targeted medicines revolutionizing drug discovery for serious diseases like those in neurology and cardiology. This summer internship supports a preclinical project comparing two RNA-therapeutic strategies for non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis using an established mouse model and molecular endpoints.

Interns execute and optimize an NCFB-like mouse model protocol with proper controls. They support in vivo activities including rodent handling, dosing, and tissue collection following SOPs. Samples are processed via tissue homogenization, RNA extraction, and assays like qPCR and ELISA to quantify inflammation and muco-obstruction markers.

Ionis cultivates a challenging, motivating environment fostering innovation and scientific excellence. The team invests in onsite, hybrid, and remote setups to build lasting relationships and thrive. Diverse individuals and perspectives drive success in RNA therapies and gene editing.

The program complements studies with hands-on industry experience, professional networking, and end-of-program presentations. Housing and travel assistance support eligible out-of-area interns. Contribute to meaningful patient impact while developing your career in a unique culture.
