About this role

A full-time Senior Research Associate position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Frank McCormack in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. This role will conduct experimental research in genetic interstitial lung disease to design and implement basic experiments.

The position coordinates research studies in the life sciences and makes independent contributions based on professional training and experience. Daily tasks include performing statistical and graphical analysis of data, interpreting results, and independently solving research issues.

This role manages all laboratory processes including supply ordering, animal management and husbandry, equipment maintenance and purchase, and IACUC protocols and amendments. Management duties also involve training and mentoring staff personnel and all laboratory trainees.

Requirements

  • High level of competency in research
  • Experience coordinating research studies in life sciences, social sciences, environmental sciences, or public health
  • Proficiency in statistical and graphical data analysis and interpretation
  • Ability to manage laboratory processes including supply ordering, animal husbandry, equipment maintenance, and IACUC protocols
  • Experience in training and mentoring laboratory staff and trainees
  • Ability to design and implement basic experiments independently
  • Skill in establishing test controls, criteria, and research standards

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate research studies in life sciences disciplines
  • Make independent contributions to projects and studies based on professional training and experience
  • Perform statistical and graphical analysis of data, interpret data, and assist in judging validity of data
  • Independently decide how to solve issues and problems using own resources
  • Manage all laboratory processes including supply ordering, animal husbandry, equipment maintenance, and IACUC protocols
  • Provide laboratory training and oversight to orient and mentor staff and trainees
  • Contribute to collective team efforts and accomplish assigned results for projects
  • Serve as a seasoned researcher and may act as a mentor to junior-level research staff
