At Lilly, we unite caring with discovery to make life better for people around the world. As a global healthcare leader, we are looking for a Sr. Director, Medical Science Liaison to lead and manage the performance of a team of MSLs in Gastroenterology for the West Region.

This leader provides national field strategic leadership, leveraging scientific and clinical expertise to ensure impactful interactions with Scientific and Clinical Experts. The Sr. Director will develop and implement regional field medical strategies aligned with business unit and medical affairs objectives.

Day-to-day responsibilities include coaching performance and development of team members through scheduled field visits, fostering personal accountability, and enabling the Field Medical Qualification process. The role also involves partnering effectively with internal medical, development, and commercial partners across the therapeutic area.

This role offers the opportunity to shape a high-performing MSL team and contribute to succession planning and talent development. By engaging in Regional Health Care Market forums and upskilling cross-functional teammates, you will lead by example in maximizing medical-commercial interactions.

Requirements

  • Proven leadership experience managing a team of Medical Science Liaisons or similar field medical professionals
  • Deep clinical and scientific expertise in Gastroenterology or a related therapeutic area
  • Ability to develop and execute regional field medical strategies aligned with business objectives
  • Strong coaching and performance management skills with a focus on talent development
  • Experience engaging with Scientific and Clinical Experts and building external partnerships
  • Ability to effectively partner with internal medical, development, and commercial teams
  • Willingness to travel extensively within the West Region

Responsibilities

  • Provide clarity of vision and expectation for the MSL team
  • Coach performance and development of team members through scheduled field visits, providing scientific and MSL role-specific feedback
  • Recruit, hire, develop, and promote top talent, contributing to succession planning
  • Develop and implement regional field medical strategies aligned with business unit and medical affairs strategies
  • Draft, communicate, and implement strategic plans to align MSLs with organizational clinical and scientific objectives
  • Engage in Regional Health Care Market forums and upskill cross-functional teammates to maximize medical-commercial interactions
  • Oversee MSL congress activities by developing comprehensive strategies and ensuring clinical insights are communicated back into Lilly
