The Division of Life Science at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) seeks outstanding candidates for faculty positions in Drug Discovery and Translational Therapeutics. This key focus area is supported by established strengths in biotechnology and related disciplines, enabling effective translation of fundamental discoveries into therapeutic applications.

Successful applicants are expected to establish independent, internationally competitive research programs and contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Research areas include target identification and validation, drug discovery, pharmacology, chemical biology, mechanisms of action, and translational pipelines linking discovery to preclinical and clinical development.

The Division has established strengths across seven thematic areas, including neuroscience, cancer biology, cell signaling, stem cell biology, macromolecular structure, biotechnology, and genomics. Faculty members are internationally recognized and benefit from world-class research infrastructure such as the Biosciences Central Research Facility, Biological Cryo-EM Center, Laboratory Animal Facility, and an AI Supercomputing Facility.

Requirements

Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree
Completion of postdoctoral training
Demonstrated potential to lead an independent, externally funded research program
Expertise in drug discovery, chemical biology, or related translational research areas
Strong record of peer-reviewed publications in relevant fields
Ability to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching

Responsibilities

Establish an independent, internationally competitive research program in drug discovery and translational therapeutics
Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the life sciences
Conduct target identification and validation for therapeutic development
Advance drug discovery, pharmacology, and chemical biology research
Elucidate mechanisms of action and therapeutic pathways
Develop translational pipelines linking fundamental discoveries to preclinical and clinical development
Supervise graduate students and postdoctoral researchers
Secure external funding and publish research findings in high-impact journals
