About this role

This role focuses on generating state-of-the-art design input for projects and process improvements at BASF's Shanghai plant. You will provide creative solutions where current standard practice does not deliver required results, ensuring timely production and quality of finished and intermediate products.

Day-to-day responsibilities include technical process optimization, monitoring and analyzing parameters, and analyzing complex process problems to identify when to involve additional specialists. You will also manage process automation and digitalization, define and control KPIs, and provide feasibility calculations using scientific tools and expert networks.

You will work closely with project improvement teams, consulting and coaching them during planning, execution, and trial phases. The environment emphasizes process safety, SHE reviews, and implementation of follow-up actions, with a strong focus on collaboration with R&D and technology managers during new product launches and projects.

This position offers the opportunity to support new project launches and product introductions, from raw materials and training to manufacturing manuals and quality control. You will also contribute to personnel training on management of change (MOC) procedures, including new chemistry, equipment, and start-up processes.

Requirements

  • At least a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or chemical process; fine chemical is preferred
  • More than 5 years' experience in chemical plant production
  • At least 2 years' experience in management of chemical processes
  • Analytical skills
  • Fluent verbal and written English
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office tools
  • Familiar with ISO9001, SHE reviews, and RCMS

Responsibilities

  • Generate state-of-the-art and novel design input for projects and process improvements according to supervisor's direction and plant production guidance
  • Provide creative solutions where current standard practice does not deliver required results
  • Analyze complex process problems and identify when to involve additional specialists
  • Define, monitor, and control KPIs for technical processes
  • Manage process automation and digitalization
  • Support technology manager on operational aspects during new project launches, including raw materials, training, manufacturing manuals, quality control, and technology-related safety
  • Support R&D in developing formulas for new products and assist supervisors to ensure smooth product introduction into production
  • Provide training for MOCs, including basic functions of new chemistry and equipment, start-up procedures, and fine-tuning
