The Clinical Operations Project Lead (COPL) provides strategic input into the global development plan and directs all operational aspects of global clinical projects. Accountable for ensuring quality deliverables on time and within budget.

As a core member of the Global Project Team, the COPL co-manages the Clinical Sub-Team and oversees day-to-day project deliverables. They serve as the main partner between the global project team and the larger operations group, managing resources and driving execution.

The COPL leads a team of 4 to 8 Clinical Operations Study Leads, teaching, coaching, and mentoring direct reports while fostering innovation. They contribute to process improvement efforts and drive operational process implementation and compliance across the value chain.

With minimal guidance, the COPL effectively leads large, complicated program development or multiple programs simultaneously. They serve as the main interface with other functions, optimizing CSO resources and leading studies in an agile manner to create value for the project and company.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to provide strategic input into global development plans and direct operational aspects of clinical projects.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large, complicated program development or multiple programs simultaneously with minimal guidance.
  • Strong project management skills with accountability for ensuring quality deliverables on time and within budget.
  • Ability to teach, coach, and mentor direct reports and contribute to their professional development.
  • Experience serving as the main interface between global project teams and larger operations groups.
  • Skill in optimizing CSO resources and leading studies in an effective and agile manner.
  • Knowledge of process improvement and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Familiarity with digital tools and AI to accelerate portfolio innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic input into operational strategy and prepare operational assumptions at project level to support global study budgets.
  • Develop operational plans with input from all applicable functions within the CSO to propose optimal clinical operations solutions and scopes of work.
  • Ensure study/program performance within the CSO and drive the multi-disciplinary CSO project team according to project requirements and objectives.
  • Accountable for COSL resources planning and drive/coach the COSL for study execution.
  • Represent CSO when collaborating and goal setting with other functions to meet clinical development plan requirements and milestones.
  • Contribute to CSO business expansion and innovation, including use of digital tools and AI to accelerate the portfolio.
  • Identify opportunities for improving organizational processes to drive organizational and operational excellence.
  • Manage and develop direct reports by setting priorities, identifying people skills needs, supporting individual development plans, and providing regular performance feedback.
