The Research Scientist plays a key role in the Medicinal Chemistry Scale-Up Group, synthesizing small molecule drug candidates and intermediates on scales from multi-grams to hundreds of grams for evaluation. This role demands independence in advanced troubleshooting, process optimization, and complex experimental procedures. Resourcefulness and self-sufficiency are essential to design alternative approaches for desired outcomes.

Daily work involves designing and executing synthetic experiments to deliver materials on tens to hundreds of gram scales for project teams. Independently develop, optimize, and scale up processes using large-scale glassware from 5L to 20L. Proficiency in mechanistic understanding ensures efficient reaction pathways.

Collaborate within the Scale-Up Group for rapid material delivery, sharing knowledge and troubleshooting challenges. Systematically analyze complex data to provide actionable recommendations and prepare detailed presentations. Contribute to continuous improvement of group processes.

Stay current with scientific literature, integrating new methodologies and emerging technologies to enhance research. Explore novel approaches to achieve project goals while maintaining diligent process safety and compliance. Contribute to patents and publications for knowledge dissemination.

Requirements

Proven experience in a large-scale synthetic laboratory delivering small molecule organic compounds
Proficiency in working with large-scale glassware (5L to 20L) across various scales
Strong synthetic chemistry expertise with deep mechanistic understanding of reaction pathways
Demonstrated ability to perform advanced experimental troubleshooting and process optimization
Familiarity with process safety and hazard assessment with meticulous safety practices
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with collaborative team-oriented mindset
Experience identifying and implementing emerging technologies to advance research

Responsibilities

Design and execute experimental synthetic work to deliver materials on scales ranging from tens to hundreds of grams
Independently develop, optimize, and scale up synthetic processes to meet project requirements
Work collaboratively within the Scale-Up Group to ensure rapid delivery of materials
Share knowledge, troubleshoot challenges, and contribute to continuous improvement of group processes
Systematically collate, analyze, and interpret complex data for actionable recommendations
Prepare and deliver detailed study presentations communicating experimental findings
Stay updated with scientific literature and incorporate new methodologies into research
