About this role

The Process Engineer II provides operations support, process improvement, and technical expertise for process units and systems in a refining or chemical environment. This role involves monitoring day-to-day operations, troubleshooting limitations, and ensuring process effectiveness through optimization and design changes. Responsibilities emphasize safety, reliability, and profitability.

Day-to-day duties include performing process monitoring, following trends in operational data to identify early problems, and communicating suspicions for avoidance resolution. Assist Operations in unit startups, shutdowns, and maintenance preparations while reducing costs via energy conservation and unit optimization. Perform PSM functions such as HAZOP participation and MOC preparation.

Collaborate in a team environment by assisting Operations, Mechanical personnel, and Operational Specialists in resolving issues and developing procedures. Provide technical training on processes and advise Management on operational changes to meet goals. Support Environmental, Health & Safety with compliance to regulations.

Drive growth through identifying needed changes for safety and profitability, developing designs, preparing MOCs for funding, and assisting in commissioning. Become proficient in engineering design/rating software and serve as technical point contact across departments. Opportunities include leading resolutions and enhancing unit procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from a four-year college or university
  • Three to six years related experience in a refining, chemical or related industry
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Leadership and motivational skills for peers
  • Self motivated with desire to learn and develop new skills
  • Exhibit a “can do” attitude and spirit of cooperation
  • Certified to use respiratory protection including SCBA and fresh air work with tight-fitting full-face mask

Responsibilities

  • Perform process monitoring on day-to-day operations
  • Identify and troubleshoot process limitations/problems and lead in resolution
  • Follow trends in operational data and identify potential problems in early stages
  • Assist Operations in unit or system start up, shutdown and preparations for equipment maintenance
  • Reduce the cost of existing processes through energy conservation, unit optimization
  • Develop and design attractive process unit or system changes
  • Perform PSM functions including HAZOP participation, resolution of HAZOP recommendations, MOC preparation and review
  • Assist in commissioning and troubleshooting of unit or system changes
