AbbVie

North Chicago, US · Full-time · $140,000 – $170,000

About this role

AbbVie’s Immunology Discovery Research group seeks a highly motivated and experienced in vivo and in vitro cellular immunologist to lead development of pharmacodynamic endpoints in non-human primate preclinical pharmacology studies. This role offers opportunities to test and preclinically validate mechanistic and translationally relevant endpoints supporting experimental medicine studies. Exposure to AbbVie’s diverse immunology pipeline enables influence on high-value program development strategies.

The candidate will work within a highly matrixed and collaborative team to deliver rigorous data packages from in vivo pharmacology studies in non-human primates, including ex vivo endpoints. Directly conduct benchwork, design in vivo studies, expand partnerships, and serve as subject matter expert for non-human primate immunology across R&D. Identify innovative opportunities to impact the Immunology portfolio using NHP models and develop a highly functioning team focused on NHP pharmacology.

Leverage deep non-human primate immunology expertise to advise project teams and coordinate study logistics across Discovery Immunology stakeholders. Manage team colony, study coordinators, budgets, and maintenance while maintaining high productivity levels. Mentor and coach others while driving innovative science from the bench.

Co-develop fit-for-purpose models addressing specific program questions through global networking. Directly develop translational immune-profiling assays and establish translational rationale for primate models. Present results at project team meetings and internal/external science forums.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and typically 12+ years of experience, OR Master’s Degree and 10+ years of experience, OR PhD and 4+ years of experience in cellular immunology or related field
  • Strong background in non-human primate immunology
  • Hands-on experimentalist who understands advantages and challenges of in vivo and in vitro primate immunology
  • Experience with multiparameter flow cytometry, especially with non-human primate samples
  • Experience handling, processing, and isolating cells from primate tissues
  • Familiarity with classical, mechanistic immunology models

Responsibilities

  • Leverage deep non-human primate immunology expertise and current literature to advise project teams
  • Communicate and coordinate study logistics within the existing team and across Discovery Immunology stakeholders
  • Coordinate with team colony, study coordinator, and supervisor regarding budget and colony maintenance while maintaining high productivity
  • Mentor and coach others while driving innovative science from the bench
  • Co-develop fit-for-purpose models to address specific program questions through networking with project leads
  • Directly develop translational immune-profiling assays
  • Establish translational rationale for utilizing primate models
  • Establish a tissue repository for rapid test article screening
