Are you passionate about pioneering new models in kidney disease research and driving innovation in drug discovery? Join AstraZeneca’s Renal Biosciences Team for your master’s thesis project. Develop and validate advanced in vitro models of mitochondrial dysfunction in acute kidney injury (AKI).

Establish an AKI model using human renal proximal tubular epithelial cells. Characterize mitochondrial function with Seahorse XF analyzer and fluorescence microscopy. Assess responsiveness to known modulators of mitochondrial function.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a Swedish University
  • Enrolled in a Master's program in biomedical sciences or molecular medicine
  • Hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture techniques
  • Familiarity with mitochondrial functional assays
  • Knowledge of acute kidney injury pathogenesis
  • Proficiency in molecular biology methods such as Western blot and qPCR
  • Skills in microscopy and image analysis

Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate in vitro models of mitochondrial dysfunction in acute kidney injury (AKI)
  • Establish AKI model in human renal proximal tubular epithelial cells
  • Characterize mitochondrial function using Seahorse XF analyzer and fluorescence microscopy
  • Assess model's responsiveness to known modulators of mitochondrial function
  • Optimize experimental conditions for mitochondrial functional assays
  • Apply analytical techniques including microscopy, image analysis, Western blot, and qPCR
  • Design experiments, analyze data, and engage in scientific writing
