About this role
ZelTech is seeking a highly qualified Bioinformatics Data Scientist to provide SME support to our government customer in Charlottesville, Virginia. This role involves directing DNA/RNA sequence database searches and computational analysis of resulting data. The position supports large-scale studies in a national security context.
Day-to-day responsibilities include implementing end-users’ needs in database searching and integration, maintaining computational infrastructure, and controlling sample and information flow. Provide web-based bioinformatics access to public and proprietary relational databases while developing and applying computational tools for drug discovery projects.
Offer direct support for bioinformatics, regex queries, keyword development, and biological ontologies, with focused data discovery from datasets. Accurately document activities and interface heavily with principal investigators, support staff, and government technical leads. Work under limited supervision, making complex decisions independently.

Requirements
- Must be a US citizen
- Active TS/SCI clearance with CI Poly
- Three (3) or more years of experience safeguarding and handling classified material
- Bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics, computational / quantitative biology, computer science, engineering, statistics, applied mathematics or related quantitative field and ten (10) or more years of work experience
- Proficiency in statistical analysis
- Experience with data analysis and visualization
- Strong programming ability in Python
- Self-teaching and mastering unfamiliar topics
Responsibilities
